Are you planning to travel from Java to Bali? Be prepared – access to Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi is currently experiencing major traffic jams, and it’s affecting thousands of travelers.
What’s Happening?
A massive traffic jam, reportedly stretching up to 50 kilometers, has formed around Ketapang Port, mainly on the route from Situbondo. The cause? A big drop in ferry services between Ketapang (Java) and Gilimanuk (Bali) – from 17 ferries down to just 6.
This change comes after the tragic sinking of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya ferry on July 2. Since then, the government has increased safety checks, which has slowed ferry operations significantly.
Road Closures Make Things Worse
To make things worse, the southern route from Jember to Banyuwangi via Gumitir has been closed for major repairs since July 24 and expected to last until September 24.
Now, all heavy vehicles are being redirected to the northern route via Situbondo, causing even more traffic near Ketapang.
The Impact? 50 KM of Traffic!
The traffic jam has reached over 50 kilometers, with some reports saying it even stretches close to Baluran National Park. The impact is being felt by travelers, locals, and logistics companies alike.
