The majestic Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has officially announced its 2026 temporary closure schedule through Decree No. 112 of 2025. This decision is far from arbitrary. Over the past two years, Mount Bromo has witnessed a dramatic rise in visitors of 400,000 in 2024 alone, and nearly 600,000 by November 2025. While this reflects the mountain’s growing global appeal, it also brings undeniable environmental consequences.
Following peak holiday periods such as Eid al-Fitr, the pressure intensifies even further. To prevent long-term ecological damage, the park implements temporary closures that allow the land to recover naturally. These recovery windows give plants time to regenerate, wildlife space to resettle, and the overall ecosystem an opportunity to restore its delicate balance.
Beyond environmental considerations, these closures also aim to respect and protect the sacred cultural traditions of the Tengger community. Important ceremonies such as Yadnya Kasada require a solemn and peaceful atmosphere, ensuring that spiritual rituals can be carried out with full respect and without disruption.

January 17, 2026 (3:00 PM WIB) – January 18, 2026 (11:59 PM WIB) - Nyepi Day
March 19, 2026 – March 20, 2026 - Post-Eid al-Fitr Holiday (Ecosystem Recovery Period)
April 6, 2026 (9:00 AM WIB) – April 12, 2026 (10:00 AM WIB) - Yadnya Kasada Day & Cleansing Ritual
May 30, 2026 (9:00 AM WIB) – June 2, 2026 (10:00 AM WIB) - Beginning of Wulan Kapitu
December 8, 2026 (3:00 PM WIB) – December 9, 2026 (11:59 PM WIB)
