Itinerary: Mt. Bromo & Mt. Ijen - 2 days
Mt. Bromo & Mt. Ijen are 2 worthy highlights of East Java. Your time is limited. You will visit these volcanoes in just 2 days. If you have more time, you can opt for the 3 days tour to Bromo & Ijen.
On the first day you will be picked up at midnight. On your second day you will depart early morning too. But, you get rewarded with a grey-greyish black moonlike landscape at Mt. Bromo and the most acidic green blueish lake in the world!

Bromo sunrise tour - mount Pananjakan
Bromo sunrise tour
You will be picked up by private car with air conditioning in Surabaya. Midnight. At the airport, train station or at your hotel.
It takes about 3 hours to reach Cemara Lawang village. Here you will have to change cars. A local 4wd Jeep will bring you to mount Pananjakan. Sunrises can be realy spectacular, depening on the weather conditions.
After sunrise, you will descend to the black sea of sand. If you wish to walk, just ask the driver to stop. Otherwise he will bring you till near the Luhur Poten temple, from where it is a 45 minutes walk to the top of Mt. Bromo. Take your time in this inspiring landscape.
When back at the Jeep, you will drive to Cemara Lawang. Change back to your private more comfortable car and head to Bondowoso city.
Accommodation
You will be staying in Ijen View Hotel Resort & Restaurant. The hotel comes with a swimming pool.

If you wish the see the beautiful blue fire phenomenon you will have to leave around midnight, otherwise it will be early morning around 04:00 or 05:00.
From Bondowoso to Paltuding takes about 2 hours. Once in Paltuding it takes about 1,5 hours walking to the crater lake. You will meet the sulphur miners on your way to the top. They carry bamboo baskets on their shoulders that weigh up to 100 kg. Once at the top, feel inspired and explore. Walk your day.
Once back at the parking area don't forget to visit the sulphur weighing area just behind the parking. Sulphur miners weigh their loads, load it on a truck and get paid.
After a local snack and a welcoming cup of coffee or tea, you will be heading to Ketapang harbour. On route you can visit the sulphur purifying factory in Licin village, Kalibendo coffee plantation and Jagir waterfall.
