Malang - Ranu Kumbolo village - hike to Kalimati camp, 2700 m

At 5 in the morning your Jeep will be waiting for you. He will drive you to Ranu Pane village at a height of 2100 m. Ranu Pane will be the last inhabited area. You might need some time to prepare before you start your hike. It will take you between 6 and 8 hours to reach Kalimati Camp at 2700 m. Lunch and coffee will be served at the picturesque lake of Ranu Kumbolo.

After your break, the hike continues to Kalimati Camp. It will take you about 4 hours while enjoying the sceneries and maybe you can witness some of the eruptions of Mt. Semeru. At the Kalimati Camp you will spend the night in a tent. Take your time to relax and prepare for the next early departure.

Kalimati - summit Mt. Semeru, 3676 m - Ranu Pane - Malang

It is still dark, but you will have to wake up to reach the summit. The rough terrain will be your enemy during the last part as you will take one step forward but will fall back half a step. Normally it takes about 3 hours, but your stamina will determine your speed and your time of arrival. Once at the top, embrace the views and the morning freshness while witnessing the volcano's eruptions.

The park's board advises to descend before noon, as volcanic gas emissions increase by that time of the day. In Kalimati camp, your breakfast will be served before descending. Have a small break after this long, beautiful and exhausting but extraordinary morning. After breakfast you will hike back to Ranu Pane village via Mt. Ayek-Ayek. In Ranu Pane you will have lunch before your private Jeep will bring you back to Malang. You will arrive late afternoon.
