Yadnya Kasada Festival is based on a legend

There are many versions of the legend that led to the Yadnya Kasada ceremony. One of them is that a couple named Roro Anteng and Joko Seger remained childless after many years of marriage. Therefore they meditated at the top Mt. Bromo and asking the mountain gods for help. The gods granted them 24 children on the condition that the 25th child must be offered to the volcano. Today, instead of humans, chickens, goats and vegetables are offered to the active volcano Bromo. Tenggerese offer in order to thank for the abundance of agricultural products and livestock, and to stay healthy.
